New Audition Dates - SouthFork Confessions

Mark your calendar for April 1 & 2, 2017 for auditions for SouthFork Confessions, a play written and directed by Chrissie Addison.

SouthFork AUDITIONS April 1 & 2  (Please note the change of previously advertised audition dates.)

Set in the Gold Rush days in a church graveyard, this original twisting tale of redemption is bound to entertain. An ensemble cast of 13 – 14 consisting of 7 or 8 men and 6 or 7 women will portray several historical and hysterical colorful characters. Original music written by Betsy Moore highlights the musical. All parts cast are leading roles of equal importance. There is no chorus. Some actors will play two characters. A live band of five musicians will be housed on stage in a church and will interact with the band, as will the stage crew. Show has serious dramatic moments and lots of comedy tucked in. Tour de force for actors!

Mr. Pantier – Wealthy attorney, bares his soul & loves his dog

Mrs. Pantier – Former actress/singer, learns to love again

Whore – Take-no-prisoner survivor, industrious felon

Father – Priest/confessor, spiritual &magical qualities

Minerva – Youthful poetess, survivor with hope

Gambler – Man-of-the-world, ready for action

Black Bart – Stage coach robber, hidden talents & sins

Railroad Magnates – Wealthy male/female, important, impatient

Sheriff – No-nonsense leader, wants answers

Miner – Gold digger, rich man with turn of fate

Claim Jumper – Comic, naive opportunist

Jehu – Intrepid stage coach driver

Hangman – Intriguing, complicated loner

English Teacher – Trail blazer, with shocking secret

Doc Elliott – Town hero, specializes in amputations

Charly Parkhurst – Famed coach driver, cross-dresser

The Milliner – Clever, sensuous entrepreneur

Saloon Mistress – Dancer with money & checkered past


This Musical “Dramedy” is designed to engage all who dream of what life was like in the “good old days” of during the days of the Gold Rush! The inhabitants of Coloma and surrounding areas tell stories that uncover the true grit of the spirit of independence that formed the West. The actors, along with the stage crew & band, will sing, dance & act in ensemble/improv style off of a thrust stage.


AUDITION SPECIFICS
In an attempt to be efficient, auditioners will be seen one at a time in a less-than-stressful atmosphere on stage at Imagination Theater on the El Dorado Fairgrounds at 100 Placerville Drive in Placerville, CA. April 1st AUDITIONS 9:30 am- Noon (Plan on 15 – 45 minutes)
Auditioners invited to come anytime during this open period.


SONG AUDITION: Prepare a song one minute or less that highlights your vocal clarity, resonance and range. All songs will be acapella. No musical accompaniment will be used or provided.


MONOLOGUE AUDITION: Prepare a memorized monologue that is one minute or less. The monologue should best portray the actor’s strengths and can be from any source. Monologues will be provided on site if necessary.


HEADSHOT AND RESUME: These are requested and advised, but not required.


April 2nd CALLBACKS 9:30- Noon (plan on 2 ½ hours or less total time at theater)

Scene readings from the script, improvs and simple movement exercises will be shared with all actors called back. Wear clothing that allows easy movement and comfort. Bring an open mind and your calendar for May – September to look ahead and note any blackout periods you may have during rehearsal period for vacations, etc.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: Show dates – September 15 – October 8, 2017

Three readthrus will follow casting where costume measurements will be taken. Band members will attend one of the readthrus to join the cast family. Character meetings will occur in May. Blocking and vocal rehearsals will start in June. Blocking/Vocals will continue in July with some scene runthrus. The band will start working on stage with the actors in August.


From mid-August to opening mid-September SouthFork rehearsals will tech and tighten show. All staff members have agreed to use time as efficiently as possible during rehearsals. Every attempt will be made to work around vacation/family schedules.


QUICK SYNOPSIS: Set in the Gold Rush days in Coloma, California a group of rugged spirits in a local graveyard spill their gritty secrets and hidden stories of their past. The archetype characters discover their life paths/stories are all connected. As false facades are broken down, true character is revealed. They seek redemption, but must work together to find the “key” to their freedom from regret, guilt and pain of past life.
At midnight, on a full harvest moon, a stage coach awaits those who pass the test. The coach will deliver them to higher ground where a better life awaits.


Recommended for ages 13+ due to language and mature themes.

Meet the Cast of A Christmas Story, The Musical - Kathryn

Kathryn is very excited to be in Imagination Theater's production of A Christmas Story.  Her other IT roles have included Spot in 101 Dalmatians, Annie/Ballerina/Ensemble in Mary Poppins, Ensemble/Beggars Chorus in Les Miserables, and a seagull in Little Mermaid Jr.  Kathryn also recently played the part of Annie in Woodland Opera House's production of Mary Poppins.  When she is not performing on stage she enjoys painting, drawing, and creating various other craft projects.  Kathryn would like to thank her friends and family for their support and encouragement.

This is Alyssa's second show at Imagination Theater. She was previously cast as one of the Dogs of London in 101 Dalmatians and is now part of the ensemble in A Christmas Story, The Musical.  She also played the part of Goldilocks in Markham Middle School's spring production, Goldilocks on Trial. Alyssa is very grateful to be part of the supportive IT family and looks forward to future showsHer other interests include volleyball and archery.

Meet the Cast of A Christmas Story, The Musical - Dan Clark

This is Dan's fourth adventure "on the boards" at Imagination Theater.  He started the adventure playing Mr. Carmichael in the 2012 production of A Little Princess.  Then in the 2014 he played Mr. DePinna in You Can't Take It With You and  Dr. Grimwig (and other ensemble parts) in Oliver.  He has also worked in the backstage crew in 2015's Spamalot.  While the acting is great fun, meeting and working with all the wonderful people keeps him coming back.

Gianna is a third grader at Sutter's Mill and is excited to be in her second show with Imagination Theater.  She has known that she wanted to join the cast of IT, ever since her big brother got the family involved in the 2014 production of Oliver. She loves to sing and dance and had an awesome first experience in 101 Dalmatians.  When she is not on stage, she can be found participating in competitive gymnastics.  She is also looking forward to being a part of IT's spring production, The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland!

A Christmas Story the Musical is Brian's second show with IT, and he is absolutely loving playing a classroom kid.  His first appearance with IT was as a Boxer in 101 Dalmatians. This is Olivia's third production with Imagination Theater and her second appearing on stage.   She was curtain operator for Mary Poppins and then appeared on stage for 101 Dalmations as understudy for Perdita.  Olivia has also performed at her school Gold Trail playing the part of Glenda in Wizrd of Oz for which she also assisted in choreography and as Katrina Van Tassel in Sleepy Hollow.  Olvia is excited to be back on stage with IT!

Ian is thrilled to be on stage for his second production with Imagination Theater.  In his first production with IT Ian appeared as Thunderbolt the Wonder Dog in 101 Dalmations.  Other stage experience incudes several productions at the Olde Coloma Theatre.  Ian is having a wonderful time performing with his fellow cast members.  He  also really enjoys school and his other past time,  swimming.

This is Charlotte's second production with IT and she coudn't be more thrilled.  She was first seen by audiences as Dot in 101 Dalmations.  Charlotte has been singing, dancing and acting since pre school.  First appearing in shows at the Olde Coloma Theatre.   Charlotte loves spending her days dancing, twirling and singing about the house.  She loves being back on stage with IT even more!

Meet the Cast of A Christmas Story, The Musical - Wayne Campbell

Wayne Campbell (Ensemble) - Wayne is making his third appearance on the IT stage in the ensemble for  Christmas Story the Musical. He debuted in 2015 as the clip-clopping Patsy in Spamalot and appeared in the well-received comedy Lend Me A Tenor. Previous roles have included Gary Peter Lefkowitz in I Hate Hamlet; King Charlemagne in Pippin; Clive and Cathy in Cloud 9; Talthybius in The Greeks: The Wars, The Murders, The Gods; and as Officer Pudney in Rumors. He has studied theater, theater history, film and stagecraft at Central Oregon Community College, briefly at the University of London, and through the writings of Constantin Stanislavsky, Sir Laurence Olivier and David Mamet.

Meet the Cast of A Christmas Story, The Musical - Nikki

Nikki Barlett (Ensemble) – Nikki is thrilled to be part of the cast in A Christmas Story the Musical. Last Spring she was seen playing the part of Whitey the Dalmatian in 101 Dalmatians at IT. Nikki enjoys working with all the cast but especially her voice coach, Caitlyn Miller who plays the Mother. Although this is only Nikki's second theater production, she has been up on stage performing through song and dance since she was three years old. She has always loved being up on stage and making people smile. She looks forward to working in many more productions in the future.

Imagination Theater to Be Led by a New Board of Directors in 2017


Imagination Theater is changing its legal and administrative structure.  After 17 years of producing more than 50 shows, the Imagination Theater Co-Founders, Peter Wolfe and Lanny Langston, are appointing a new Board of Directors which will assume its management role commencing in January, 2017. This  new Board of Directors will annually elect new officers.  The Imagination Theater governing bylaws are in the final stages of being revised to reflect the new organizational structure and then be properly filed in order to maintain the theater's non-profit, public-benefit status. Peter and Lanny are stepping down from their roles as President and Chief Financial Officer. Imagination Theater's mission statement will remain in place.

The new Board of Directors will be comprised of 10 members, including a President, President-Elect, Vice-President, Artistic Director, Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer, Secretary, House Manager, Marketing Director, and two Members-at-Large. These new directors will serve staggered two-year terms.

Interviews of potential board members are continuing, and some of the positions have been filled.  David Zarka has been selected to be President.  Wayne Campbell will be President-Elect. Peter Wolfe will be Artistic Director.  Maggie Bush has accepted the position of Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer.  Maggie is already transitioning into oversight of the financial operations of the theater. The remaining board positions will be announced in December.

It is anticipated that the new Board of Directors will initially focus on the completion of a Policy and Procedures Manual, and the formation of Artistic, Marketing, and Fund-raising/Sponsorship Committees.

A Theater Reorganization Committee, chaired by Dr. Peter Barba, has ably assisted Lanny and Peter in considering the significant aspects of the reorganization process.  Members of this committee include Lori Whittle, Holly Salvestrin, Anna Salvestrin, Barry Harwell, Maggie Bush, Hanna Bush, Jeff Jackson, Brenda Lindley, Jeff Cameron, David Zarka, and Paul Bott.

The mission of Imagination Theater is to tell good stories well in an atmosphere of Trust, Respect, Personal Growth, and Challenge.

Connor Campbell (Ensemble) - Connor is excited to be making his debut on the IT stage. His father has been an avid thespian for years and inspired Connor to audition for A Christmas Story The Musical. Connor hopes to audition for more shows in the future.

Ali LaVanway (Miss Shields) - Ali is thrilled to be returning to the stage of Imagination Theater after a short time away. Ali was previously seen in IT's productions of You Can't Take It With You (Essie Carmichael), Oliver (Widow Corney, Ensemble), and Les Miserables (Ensemble). When she is not at the theater, Ali can be found teaching music at Cedar Springs Waldorf School, practicing the recorder, and organizing dance parties in her living room.

Meet the Cast of A Christmas Story, The Musical - Jayce Kaldunski (Randy)

Jayce Kaldunski (Randy) - Jayce has enjoyed being a part of the IT Family for the past three years.  He had the privilege of playing Oliver in Oliver in his first production with subsequent roles that included Michael Banks in Mary Poppins and a narrating bull dog in 101 Dalmatians.  His theater experience also includes playing the role of Tommy in Pippi Longstocking with Sutter Street Theatre in Folsom.   Jayce would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Lori Whittle who first introduced him to theater as the director of We Are Monsters, a musical production with Indian Creek Elementary School in 2014.  He wants to thank you for supporting Imagination Theater and hopes you enjoy the show!

Meet the Cast of A Christmas Story, The Musical - Brenden Carlson (Ralphie)

Brenden Carlson (Ralphie) -  Brenden is excited to be playing Ralphie Parker in Imagination Theater’s A Christmas Story the Musical.  Brenden was recently seen playing the part of Lucky in IT’s 101 Dalmatians.  Brenden  also played the part of Michael Banks in last year’s Christmas production of Mary Poppins at IT and was in the ensemble for IT’s production of Les Miserables.  Other local area credits include ensemble roles in Woodland Opera House’s Mary Poppins, ensemble in Runaway Stage Production of Jungle Book, and Caleb in a local church Christmas Cantata.  He hopes to one day become a Hollywood actor.  Brenden would like to thank is parents for their support in his theatrical endeavors as well as the cast of A Christmas Story the Musical for being so much fun to work with.

Meet the Cast of A Christmas Story, The Musical - Erick Lindley (The Old Man)

Erick Lindley (The Old Man) - Erick is excited to be appearing in another Imagination Theater production. Erick most recently reprised the role of Harrold Hill in The Music Man at the State Theater Acting Company in Auburn. He was last seen onstage at IT! as King Arthur in Spamalot where he was able to perform with his wife Brenda. You may have also seen Erick in the IT! productions of Les Miserable and White Christmas. Erick has had the privilege in performing with other Sacramento area theaters in roles including Harold Hill in The Music Man at Sierra Stages, Georg Nowack in She Loves Meat Placer Community Theater, and Captain Brackett in South Pacific at the Woodland Opera House. Erick has also produced shows including Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know and Mid-Life! The Crisis Musical, but his love is on the stage. His wife Brenda provided him the inspiration and encouragement to join theater many years ago and continues to be his “biggest fan!”

Meet the Cast of A Christmas Story, The Musical - Caitlyn Miller (Mother)

Caitlyn Miller (Mother) - Caitlyn Miller is thrilled to be back on the stage in her hometown. While away in San Francisco she mentored in the vocal program at San Francisco City College and performed with the Lamplighters Music Theater Company. Caitlyn currently teaches voice and piano at the Crocker House Creative Arts Center in El Dorado. She also does the vocal direction for the musicals at Union Mine High School. This is her 5th show at Imagination Theater. Her last show with IT was Grease. She also played Lily St.Regis in Annie. She performed with Sutter Street Theater as a stepsister in Into the Woods. Two of her favorite roles were in The Sorcerer and Iolanthe at Lamplighters.

Meet the Cast of A Christmas Story, The Musical - Jeremy Carlson (Jean Shepherd)

Jeremy Carlson (Jean Shepherd) - is very excited to be back at Imagination Theater working with such a terrific and talented group of people!  Previous IT roles include: Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, Archibald Craven in The Scecret Garden, Arthur in Camelot, Beast in Beauty and the Beast. Tin Man in Wizard of Oz, and Professor Bhaer in Little Women.   Jeremy has also played roles in other local area theaters including George Banks in Mary Poppins (Woodland Opera House), Mr. Lundie in Brigadoon (Davis Musical Theater), Adolfo Pirelli in Sweeney Todd (Davis Musical Theater), and Foreman/Ensemble in Les Miserables (Davis Musical Theater).  Jeremy is also very happy to be sharing this theatrical experience with his whole family including his son Brenden who is playing the part of Ralphie Parker, and his wife Tamalisa and daughter Kathryn who are in the ensemble.

Sale of the Season - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Imagination Theater is pleased to announce tickets for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland are now available and on sale for $12 through December. This is a $3 savings off the regular ticket price. Based on the classic story by Lewis CarrollAlice's Adventures in Wonderland is an encore of the original Elly Award-winning production written by Peter Wolfe and Sarah Wolfe. It was first performed at Imagination Theater in 2001.
The show is comprised of adults and children and is appropriate for the entire family. Shrek Audition - April 2017


Mark your calendar for April 22  and 23, 2017 for auditions for Shrek, The Musical, directed by Peter Wolfe.  Show dates – Holiday Season 2017  ***Please note earlier audition dates for Fiona.

Based on Shrek’s adventures in the classic book and Oscar-winning film. Joining Shrek on his journey from the swamp to the stage will be his wisecracking sidekick Donkey, Princess Fiona, Lord Farquaad and a chorus of fractured fairy tale creatures.

1.  Vocal Requirements for all auditioners:
·         Ensemble Roles.  Auditioners for ensemble roles will be asked to sing a musical theater type song of their choice.  Song choice may be from Shrek or any other show.  Some ensemble auditioners may be asked to sing in a falsetto voice.
·         Young and Teen Fiona.  Auditioners for Young Fiona or Teen Fiona are expected to sing the Young Fiona and Teen Fiona portions of “I Know It’s Today” from the show.
·         Adult Fiona.  Adult Fiona auditioners are expected to prepare 2 vocal pieces from the show: 
(1) The Adult Fiona portion of “I Know It’s Today,” and
(2) “Finale.” Through measure 60.
·         Donkey.  Auditioners for Donkey are expected to sing “Don’t Let Me Go” from the show.
·         Lord Farquaad.  Auditioners for Lord Farquaad will be asked to sing ”What’s Up Duloc?”  The song must be sung while kneeling.
·         Shrek. Auditioners for Shrek will be asked to sing “Who I’d Be.”
·         Voice of the Dragon.  Seeking a soulful, R and B sound.  Please prepare any suitable song.
·         All auditioners are encouraged to become familiar with the melody and lyrics to “Freak Flag.” Memorization of the lyrics is not necessary.
·         Auditioners should bring their accompanying music as an electronic file on a CD, a computer, an Ipad, or on a cell phone. A live accompanist will not be available. A capella singing is not allowed. Lyrics must be memorized. All vocal auditions must be accompanied by a musical backing track that does not include accompanying vocals. Appropriate backing tracks are available on You Tube.
2.  Audition Schedule:
·         All auditions are at Imagination Theater.
·         VOCAL AUDITIONS ONLY FOR YOUNG FIONA AND TEEN FIONA.
o   Wednesday, April 19, 2017; Check-in at 6:00pm. Auditions from 6:30-9:00pm.
o   Bring Theater Resume.  Headshots or Photos optional.
·         VOCAL AUDITIONS ONLY FOR ADULT FIONA and CALL-BACK VOCAL AUDITIONS FOR YOUNG FIONA AND TEEN FIONA.
·         Thursday, April 20, 2017; Check-in at 6:00pm. Auditions from 6:30-9:00pm.
·         Bring Theater Resume.  Headshots or Photos optional.
·         GENERAL VOCAL, DANCE, AND READINGS AUDITIONS FOR ALL AUDITIONERS.
·         Saturday, April 22, 2017; Check-in at 8:30am.
·         Vocal Auditions from 9:00am to Noon.  There will be a lunch break.
·         Dance Auditions from 1:00pm to 2:30pm.
·         Cold Readings from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.
·         Auditioners for all Ensemble Roles, Shrek, Lord Farquaad, Donkey, and Dragon will sing on Saturday morning.
·         Bring Theater Resume.  Headshots or Photos optional.
·         Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing and suitable dance shoes for all auditions.  Dancing in bare feet or sandals is not allowed. Do not wear heavy boots.
·         Bring water and snacks.
·         CALL-BACK AUDITIONS BY INVITATION.
·         Sunday, April 23,2017; 1:00pm to 4:00pm
o    Will include group singing, cold readings, and additional dancing activities
